How to replace a dishwasher By Chel Oberlin

There are two methods for replacing a dishwasher, both of which achieve the same result. Simply select which method works best for you.

Method 1
1. Go to store and purchase dishwasher.
2. Pick up dishwasher or have it delivered.
3. Make sure power is off and the old unit is unplugged.
4. Have friendly repairman remove old dishwasher and install new one.
5. Enjoy the new dishwasher.

Method 2
1. Go to store and purchase dishwasher.
2. Pick up dishwasher or have it delivered.
3. Make sure power is off and the old unit is unplugged.
4. Remove old dishwasher and install new one.
a. Pull out old dishwasher.
b. Notice all the dirt and mouse droppings from behind and beneath the old dishwasher.
c. Unhook tubes from the dishwasher (depending on age of previous dishwasher, the amount of time and energy used on this step may vary).
d. Quickly grab towels to clean up water all over the floor from the tubes of the old dishwasher.
e. Wrestle new dishwasher out of box.
f. Try to fit new dishwasher into the dishwasher compartment.
g. Try again to fit new dishwasher into the dishwasher compartment.
h. Try again. Get spouse to help.
i. Try again.
j. Get snack in order to refuel and calm down.
k. Try again with spouse and successfully get dishwasher into the dishwasher compartment.
l. Go to home improvement store to get parts needed.
m. Arrive home and realize wrong part was purchased.
n. Send spouse to home improvement store to exchange and purchase additional parts.
o. Ask friendly staff at neighborhood store for help to ensure the correct part is purchased.
p. Purchase part and travel home.
q. Realize friendly staff directed you to the wrong part.
r. Try to get that part to work.
s. Make part from old dishwasher work.
t. Finish hooking up dishwasher.
u. Haul old dishwasher outside to be disposed of at a later date.
v. Clean floors in kitchen area, living room, and dining area, in case any mouse droppings were spread around.
5. Enjoy new dishwasher.


Needless to say, we have a lovely new dishwasher in our home. But I’m not going to tell which method we chose for it’s installation.
